While it may seem some people have a bucket of happiness at all times, most have their bad days. You may be envious that they seem happy all the time, but everyone can learn how to be happy more often. Sometimes it may be hard. Sometimes you may need a down day. Yet happiness is something that can grow with a little help.
What thoughts make you smile?
When something upsets you rather than dwell on it, think of something that makes you smile. Maybe your dog or cat makes you smile. Think back to what your children did that made you laugh. Recall happy times with friends. Before long you will have a smile on your face once again.
Do you know the power of music?
Another way to be joyful is with music. Many people put sad music on when they feel down, or happy music when they feel happy. You probably know the power of music, but you may not have considered using it for your benefit. When life brings you down, put on happy music. Keep a CD or a playlist on your MP3 player with your favorite happy songs, ready for when you need them.
What makes you thankful?
In your life, there is much to be thankful for, even when you doubt it. Look around and start with the basics, like your clothes or family, or the dog beside you. They may seem small, but they can show you how to feel joyful. When you really stop to think about it, they are wonderful things that bless your life. Make it a daily habit to give thanks. When your heart beats with regret or sadness, remember those happy thankful thoughts.
Who can you help?
This is an important tip for how to be joyful. Everyday someone needs help in a variety of ways and fashions. If you see someone drop their groceries, help the person pick them up. When someone is struggling with something, offer to help. Send a greeting card to someone who helped you, you could brighten their day. When you help someone and do not expect anything in return, you are helping yourself as well.
Where are your friends?
While some friends may make you feel worse, you want to spend time with the friends who make you feel happy. If you do not have friends who make you feel happy, then it is time to expand your circle. Look for people who are cheerful, spend time with them. Find various places where people are. Spend time there, try to make a connection.
What else makes you happy?
What ever it is, then you want to use those when you are upset. It will not be easy at first to use these tricks to make yourself feel happier, but they grow. The more often you choose to be positive rather than negative the easier and faster it is to become happy.
